Seven Bridges Ballater, OS Grid Ref NO369959

A circular walk along waymarked paths, tracks and minor roads that explores some of the fine countryside around Ballater. The route includes a detour to the ruins of a sixteenth century tower house, Knock Castle.  Starts and ends at the renovated old railway station in Ballater and, as the name implies, crosses a number of bridges along the way.  Long walk 6.5 miles. Various options for short walk (TBA)

Wednesday 11th September

Gourdon, Inverbervie, Benholm Circular, OS Grid Ref NO825707 

 

Gourdon harbour to Inverbervie, then gentle climb up Gourdon Hill, descending down towards Mill of Benholm. Turning east, we walk along the Beedies Brae to join the lovely coastal path back to Gourdon, where we will enjoy High tea with fish and chips at the fish restaurant there!  Long walk of 7.5 miles.  Short walk Gourdon- Inverbervie circular 4 miles.

Wednesday 25th September

Glen Ey, OS Grid Ref NO088892  

A walk up Glen Ey (beyond Braemar) and return following a farm track, slightly uphill at the start (8 miles approx).  Short walk similar but shorter.

Wednesday 9th October

Rocks of Solitude Edzell, OS Grid Ref NO600688

A circular walk starting and ending in picturesque Edzell.  The route follows the river North Esk upstream as it squeezes through an impressive gorge and then woodland paths and a minor road through pleasant countryside to complete the circuit.  Long walk 6.5 miles.  Various options for short walk (TBA).

Cambus O'May to Dinnet via Loch Kinord, OS Grid Ref NO405980 

 

From Cambus O'May up the back of the Burn O'Vat to Loch Davan, around part of Loch Kinord and on to Dinnet. (6 miles approx)  Short walk available TBA.

Fishwives Path

Fishwives Path – Newmill to Drybridge. LM28 NJ435577. We walk from Newmill to Drybridge. Good views at Hill of Stoneyslacks. 9 miles. Short walk from Buckie to Drybridge and return. 4 miles. Possible High Tea at Buckie.

Wednesday 5th June

Honka House – Royal Deeside.  LM43 NO189916

From the car park at Keilloch, aross the Invercauld Bridge, on good forest tracks throughout, the walk takes a gradual but lengthy winding climb with rewarding views, eventually dropping down through pine forest to the Honka Hut. A short incline leads to the Garbh-Alt Falls. Following a decline and crossing the Garbh-Alt bridge, the route turns left through the deer park returning on a level track to the start point passing the Bowman's plaque en route. 6 miles. Short walk to be arranged.

Wednesday 19th June

Ferryden – Boddin – Scurdieness – Ferryden. LM54 717567

. Along minor lanes and paths to the coast then along cliff top path from Boddin to Scurdieness lighthouse. Return along the Esk to Ferryden. 6 miles. Short walk to Scurdieness  and back. 3 miles.
